(save the scarf made by Jano)

Well I reckon we've waited long enough, so here's our first dedicated fan-thread to the good Doctor ~ whichever regeneration of him that you happen to favour...

So off we go and have fun chatting about all things...

Love this picture! And you remembered the jelly babies (yay) and the scarf is so good too! I adored Tom Baker as the good Doctor! He was almost mad and infectiously funny. Just like a time traveller would end up!
Happy memories!

New series starts tonight (well, actually - you've probably had it for a while, but it starts in Australia). Guess I ought to be watching it!

The scarf was mine! LOL

I knitted it in 1975 after begging scrap 4 ply wool from everyone I knew - it was over 12 foot long (just over 3.5m). The moths had been at it though so that was one of the few sections that survived and I photocopied it for an inhouse finance magazine at work when they had a TARDIS system implemented (The Accounting Resource Delivery Information System Wacko). Exciting days... Angry

Does anyone remember what the scarf was actually for...? Evil Smile

I knitted one. It went twice round the neck and down both sides to the floor. Eight inches wide it was. Happy days!

However the scarf came into being - now it is synonymous with Doctor Who and a character in it's own right.   Just as much a hero as the Doctor!

What a brilliant idea in the first place that the Doc could regenrate - great way to keep a series going with a succession of actors, all bringing their own kind of dignity/madness to the role.  Tom Baker was a good Puddleglum too, I seem to recall.  And wasn't Colin Baker supposed to be a Dr. whose regeneration had not gone quite right so he was a little unbalanced?  Gosh the memories are coming up in this thread1

Really terrific this Monday and Tuesday to see all four episodes of the last adventure shared by Tom Baker and Sarah Jane - thank you BBC4! sofa

Oh that was really good and it struck me that Elisabeth was a dark haired Felicity Kendall... could easily have played sisters.  They even had a similar tone to their voice.

Well actually a lot of actors at that time sounded like that - faintly upper crust and nasal - listen to T Baker in the same episodes - they tend to flatten their R sinds into L sounds, like choristers! (Kelsey Grammer does it too, BTW) - all very Laurence Olivier/Joan Plowright

Yep, I agree, the story was good and she was too.  (BTW I meant 'R sounds' in my last, not 'R sinds'.)
Wonder what 'sinds' are?
