Suzette Haden Elgin

began writing science fiction novels to pay her PhD tuition. She achieved the distinction of being the only student ever to write two dissertations (one on English, one on Navajo) for that purpose; she retired in 1980 to the Arkansas Ozarks. Her Native Tongue series was a scientific experiment with a ten-year term, and it involved the construction of the language called Láadan.
As well as many other novels and some short fiction, Suzette is also a poet.

Ursula Le Guin

As of 2010, Ursula K. Le Guin has published twenty-one novels, eleven volumes of
short stories, three collections of essays, twelve books for children, six
volumes of poetry and four of translation, and has received many awards: Hugo,
Nebula, National Book Award, PEN-Malamud, etc. She lives in Portland, Oregon

Some folks include surrealism, some straight science. One thing is certain - SFPAns know sf poetry when they see it.
